Carat Weight
The weight of a diamond is measured in carats, making it the easiest of the four C's to determine. As carats are a measure of weight and not necessarily of size, some diamonds of the same carat weight may actually appear to be different in size. Each carat is divided into 100 parts, called points. So if a one-carat diamond = 1.00 carat or 100 points, a 3/4 carat diamond = 0.75 carat or 75 points and so on. Remember, the value of a diamond can vary greatly from one of equal carat weight depending on the color, clarity, and most importantly, the cut.
Color
Although most diamonds may appear colorless, they actually have subtle shades of yellow or brown. The closer a diamond is to having no color, the rarer and more expensive it is. The chart below is the industry standard for grading the color of diamonds.
Clarity
Thanks to Mother Nature, every diamond is unique. But practically all diamonds contain natural internal characteristics or "birthmarks." The size, location, and number of these characteristics determine the rarity of the diamond and influence its value. This chart should help when evaluating a diamond.
Cut
The cut of a diamond is the only factor that man can control, and it is unquestionably the single most important factor in determining the beauty and value of a diamond. What's unique about a diamond is how it plays with light, creating the sparkle, fire and brilliance. It's all about light: how much is taken in, how it's refracted around inside, and how much is reflected back to the eye of the beholder. The more perfect the cut, the more light a diamond returns, and the more beautiful it looks.
Cut: Proportions, Symmetry, Polish
The cut of a diamond truly determines both its beauty and value. What you see with a Hearts On Fire diamond is an unequalled marriage of math and physics, resulting in the world's most perfectly cut diamond.
You don't have to be an expert to understand why - you just have to look through the Proportion Scope to see the remarkable difference a Hearts On Fire diamond exhibits.
Beauty
Hearts On Fire diamonds are cut specially for beauty. Because of their perfect proportions, these diamonds look larger, sparkle more brilliantly and have more fire and scintillation.
Value: Size vs. Weight
Not only do Hearts on Fire diamonds exhibit superior brilliance, fire and scintillation, they will appear larger than ordinary diamonds of the same size. That's because many diamonds are cut for maximum carat weight and not maximum beauty. Extra weight may be left on the bottom of the diamond, affecting its ability to sparkle.
A Hearts On Fire diamond takes four times longer to cut and polish than an ordinary diamond, and is as perfectly cut on the bottom as it is on the top.As an example, a .8 carat Hearts On Fire diamond appears to be the same size as an ordinary 1.00 carat diamond. The top, or table, of these diamonds are in fact the same size. The extra weight in the bottom of an ordinary diamond actually takes away from its beauty and adds to its cost.
The Value is Verifiable
After a Hearts On Fire diamond is cut and polished, the Hearts On Fire name and identification number are laser-inscribed on the girdle - the tiny edge at the middle of the diamond.
Plus you receive certification from an independent gemological laboratory authenticating your diamond's value based on its cut, clarity, color and carat weight. this gives you the comfort of knowing that your diamond has met the exacting standards that allow it to be called a Hearts On Fire diamond. Best of all, it gives you the peace of mind that you have bought a diamond of incomparable beauty and everlasting value.
What you see is the combined beauty of math and physics at work - the result of facets cut with precisely defined angles and proportions, and what they do to light when it enters a Hearts on Fire diamond. Its shape is perfectly round, the facets are perfectly pointed, the top and bottom facets are perfectly aligned. It's measurably different from other diamonds.
Looking through the bottom of a Hearts on Fire diamond, you can see a perfectly symmetrical ring of hearts. With an ordinary diamond, you can't.
Looking through the top of a Hearts on Fire diamond, you see a perfect star - the fire. It's vastly different from an ordinary diamond.
Because a Hearts on Fire diamond is cut for maximum light and beauty, it will appear larger, more brilliant, and prettier than an ordinary diamond with the same size diameter, even though it has less carat weight.
Dream and Hearts on Fire...
As almost everyone knows, the value of a diamond is determined by its4 Cs - cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. But the beauty of a diamond depends almost entirely on the cut. Because what is unique about a diamond is how it plays with light, creating the sparkle, fire, and brilliance. It's all about light - how much light is taken in - how it's refracted back to the eye of the beholder. The more light there is, the more beautiful the diamond looks. Fewer than one in every million diamonds is cut to this extraordinary level of perfection. It's called the Hearts on Fire Diamond. There is not a more perfectly cut diamond in the world.
Customers can actually see the difference in cut by looking through a Proportion Scope directly into the heart of the diamond. Looking through the bottom of a Hearts on Fire diamond, you will see a perfectly symmetrical ring of hearts. Looking through the top, you will see a perfect star, the "fire" of a diamond. It's vastly different from an ordinary diamond. "Our customers can see the proof of a perfect cut diamond and their reaction is 'wow'!"
After a Hearts on Fire diamond is cut and polished, an identification number is laser-inscribed on the girdle (the tiny edge at the middle of the stone). Each number is unique.
An independent gemological laboratory then evaluates each stone for the "4 Cs - cut, clarity, color, and carat weight - and provides a certificate attesting to its findings. The number on the certificate, which matches the number on the stone, authenticates the diamond's value and gives you the comfort of knowing that the diamond that earned the ratings is actually yours.
